Booking an apartment is easy. Finding the time to prepare a surprise is another matter entirely. The romantic package at Cocon Mayennais exists for exactly that reason: you open the door, and everything is already in place.

A birthday, a proposal, Valentine’s Day — or simply the urge to disappear together for one night, on a Tuesday, for no particular reason. The excuse doesn’t matter. What matters is that you arrive empty-handed and the surprise stands up on its own.

Rose petals, from the entrance to the bedroom

It starts on the staircase. A trail of red petals climbs the steps, crosses the living room and stops at the foot of the bed, under the beams of the attic bedroom. It’s a small thing, and yet it’s the first thing our guests photograph.

Downstairs, the living room gets the same treatment: a few petals on the round table, more on the floor between the green armchairs. Nothing loud, nothing kitsch — just enough that the room no longer looks quite like an ordinary living room when you switch on the light.

The whirlpool tub, at its best

The whirlpool bath behind its glass partition is the room guests talk about most on their way out. With the package, we add fizzing bath bombs: drop them into the hot water, watch them dissolve into a swirl of colour, and let the scent rise with the steam as the jets start up.

Give it time. A whirlpool bath for two isn’t a quick shower: it’s the moment in the evening when you stop checking the clock, the conversation slows down and the rest of the week waits outside.

And because a bathroom is also for the morning after, the double vanity gets its own petals. A quiet way of stretching the evening out until the first coffee.

Fresh flowers on the table

A bouquet of red roses waits for you on arrival, in its vase, in the middle of the living-room table. Not three symbolic stems placed there for the photo: a real bouquet, one that will last well beyond your stay and that you’re welcome to take home with you.

Macarons from Veronika

For the sweet part, we didn’t look far. The box comes from Veronika – bijouterie gourmande, 3 rue de la Paix, in the centre of Laval, a few minutes from the apartment. Alona and Arnaud Gautier make their macarons themselves, in small batches.

Thin shell, generous ganache, flavours that change with the seasons: we’ll let the day’s selection be a surprise. They go down very well on the mezzanine, glass in hand, as the light fades over the rooftops.

How to book

The romantic package is added as an option when you book. Just tell us roughly what time you expect to arrive: everything will be set up before you open the door, and nobody will have to pretend not to notice.
